About Us

History and Background

Sipthara international school commenced its educational activities on the 20th of January 2012 as a preschool with just 20 students, but now we have grown significantly boasting a student body of over 400. We promote a relaxed and happy atmosphere focusing on ‘play, learn and grow together’ with a safe stimulating and nourishing environment irrespective of student’s ethnicity, religious or social background.. Sipthara international provides education to all children from the age 2 and half years with Montessori classes to the age of 10 with students following either national curriculum in English or Sinhala. In addition to the mainstream education at Sipthara international, the day scholars as well as the children from a wider community have the opportunity to improve themselves by making use of the facilities such as dancing, sports, leadership building, speech and drama. These additional facilities are provided in collaboration with highly reputed professionals from the island thus giving our local children the greatest possible exposure at their doorstep.

The preschool age pupils who start at the age of 2 and half would follow association of Montessori international (AMI syllabus) with sensorial activities as well as real life scenarios to develop and prepare them for challenges ahead in life. At the primary school level, the students can opt to follow either the national curriculum in English or Sinhala medium. The important factor is that students will have the opportunity to learn Sinhala, English and Tamil languages, irrespective of the syllabus they choose.

There is no doubt that demand for English based education has grown in Sri Lanka especially due to the rising income of the middle class and also the aspiration of parents to teach their children in English medium. We believe that this demand would continue to rise in the coming years and institutions similar to ours would play a major role in meeting this demand provided we have the necessary infrastructure in place.
