Our Curriculum
At Sipthara the curriculum is based on the National Curriculum thus is designed to provide your child a well-rounded education which place equal importance on academics as well as extra-curricular activities.
Elementary School
The curriculum of the elementary school is a well-balanced one comprising of the best practices derived from AMI Montessori and Preschool methods. Teaching is through games, art and presentations using Montessori materials. Each age group is provided with the appropriate internationally designed educational toys and materials to enhance their skills in keeping with their progressive development. The emphasis is on activity-based learning where creativity of the child is encouraged, to enhance the motor skills, mathematical problem-solving skills, and spatial skills of the students. The main activities include Fruit tasting day, Water Day, Environment Day, Art and craft exhibition, Perahera and Field trips.
Primary School
Year 1 & 2
The section Year 1 and 2 mainly focus on effective teaching. The curriculum and the classrooms at Sipthara are designed to give all the children the skills and knowledge they need to become outstanding pupils. Our teachers are passionate about their subject matter and their dedication to teaching offers our students invaluable learning opportunities.
Year 3 & 5
The primary section follows the National Curriculum. Our timetables include Art, Music, Dancing, Speech, Physical education (PE) and Information & Communication technology (ICT) in addition to the main subjects. Our students are taught their mother tongue, Sinhala in each grade and Tamil as a second language up to Year 5.
We encourage our students to embrace their culture and religion daily and persuade them to be part of at least one after school sport activity from swimming, table tennis, chess, athletics, or an extracurricular activity such as Kandyan dancing, or oriental band.
The teachers in this section are not only goal oriented, professional, creative and kind hearted, but they also work tirelessly to discipline their students as we perceive self-control to be a vital part of a holistic student. We believe that each child is unique in his/her own way, and we try to let them be the best that they can be.
